OUR FOOTPRINT

11

Our regional footprint extends to 11 countries where we execute sustainable world-class events.

SOUTH AFRICA

A land for all seasons. A country of magnificent vistas and awe-inspiring beauty. A place that feeds the soul and fills the heart with an intoxicating sense of wonder. Come on a journey that will touch your senses in so many ways that you’ll leave forever changed. Experience the incredible diversity of the land from the natural splendour of Cape Town to the sultry Durban coastline, a Big Five safari next to the Kruger National Park, or the glitter and glamour of the fun-filled Sun City Resort. For explorers and adventurers who want to experience life to its full, there is no place like South Africa. Here, just beneath the surface, it is easy to find the real thing, to discover new meaning, to see more, to live more and to come away a richer, more diverse human being.

BOTSWANA

Blessed with some of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth, Botswana is one of the great safari destinations in Africa, and with nearly half of the country given over to national parks, reserves and private concessions, visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting an excellent safari experience. Botswana is a wild and dramatic land characterised not only by its bountiful wildlife, but also by its extraordinary scenery: from the ancient baobabs of the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans, the vast open land of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the sand dunes of the Kgalagadi, to the savannah grasslands of Chobe National Park and the waterways of the Okavango Delta, the diversity is staggering.

MOZAMBIQUE

Dubbed the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean,” Mozambique beckons with its 2,500 km coastline and swaying palms, its traditions, its cultures, its vibe and its opportunities for adventure. This enigmatic country is well off most travellers’ maps, but it has much to offer those who venture here: long, dune-fringed beaches, turquoise waters abounding in shoals of colourful fish, well-preserved corals, remote archipelagos in the north, pounding surf in the south and graceful dhows with billowing sails. And while the question of where to go often comes down to which beach or island best suits your sandy-toed dream destination, away from the coastline you’ll also find colonial-style architecture, a fascinating cultural mix and vast tracts of bush.

NAMIBIA

If Namibia is ‘Africa for beginners’, as is often said, then what a wonderful place to start! Few countries in Africa can match Namibia’s sheer natural beauty, bountiful sunshine, abundance of wildlife and game reserves, scenic beauty and a rich diversity of geological phenomena. From the seemingly endless sand dunes of the Namib Desert to the tropical wetlands of the Caprivi Strip, Namibia is a country of epic landscapes, bountiful wildlife and few people. The country is among the prime destinations in Africa and is known for its ecotourism, which features extensive national parks and wildlife reserves. Namibia’s human story is also every bit as interesting as that written in the rocks, soil and sand of the country.

ZAMBIA

The rewards of travelling in Zambia are those of exploring remote, mesmerising wilderness as full of an astonishing diversity of wildlife as any part of Southern Africa. Adventures undertaken here will lead you deep into the bush where animals, both predators and prey, wander through unfenced camps, where night-time means swapping stories around the fire and where the human footprint is nowhere to be seen. Where one day you can canoe down a wide, placid river and the next raft through the raging rapids near world-famous Victoria Falls. Vast lakes and wetlands, breathtaking African sunsets and a rich guiding tradition all contribute to Zambia’s immense appeal as a safari destination.

ZIMBABWE

A journey to Zimbabwe will take you through an attractive patchwork of landscapes, from highveld, balancing boulders and flaming msasa trees, to laidback towns, lush mountains and lifeblood rivers. Here you can spot the Big Five (leopard, lion, rhino, elephant and buffalo) in its national parks, discover World Heritage-listed archaeological sites and stand in awe of one of the natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls – one of the largest waterfalls on the planet, and one of the premier incentive destinations in Africa. With its abundance of natural wonders, welcoming locals, fascinating heritage and good climate, Zimbabwe is one of the most remarkable countries in Africa

KENYA

The most distinguishing aspects of Kenya are its vast savannahs peppered with immense herds of wildlife such as wildebeest and zebras migrating in their millions with the great predators of Africa following in their wake. Snow-capped equatorial mountains within sight of harsh deserts. The lush, palm-fringed coastline of the Indian Ocean. The Great Rift Valley – one of the geologic wonders of the world, not to mention the dense forests reminiscent of the continent’s heart. Kenya is also home to more than 40 different tribal groups, bringing soul and colour to the earth. In short, Kenya is a country of epic landforms that stir our deepest longings for this very special continent – the perfect place to answer Africa’s call of the wild.

RWANDA

TANZANIA

Wonderful wildlife including the drama of the wildebeest migration along a seemingly-endless savannah. Idyllic beaches dotted along the magical Indian Ocean coastline with tranquil islands and sleepy coastal villages steeped in centuries of Swahili culture. Serengeti National Park – considered the continent’s premier spot to see wildlife roam unheeded across vast open plains. Ngorongoro Crater featuring the most densely concentrated population of African mammals on earth. The striking and snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro – Africa’s tallest at 5,895m, and the world’s highest free-standing volcano. Tanzania has all these and more, wrapped up in one adventurous, welcoming package.

MAURITIUS

Unremittingly beautiful, Mauritius is a fascinating Indian Ocean island paradise, with a hypnotic blend of Indian, African and European influences. Its very name conjures up images of tropical extravagance, famed for cobalt-blue seas, powder-white sandy beaches, a massive coral reef with bountiful marine life and luxury hotels. In Mauritius you are spoilt for choice, with a wide variety of island activities jam-packed with historic sights, distinct cultural diversity and geographic variation. Synonymous with luxury beach breaks, the island will dazzle even the most discerning traveller, but perhaps the country’s biggest asset is the relaxed charm of its warm and welcoming people.

SEYCHELLES

The Seychelles is a fabled paradise made up of 115 tropical islands scattered across the Indian Ocean. Spellbinding beaches are the main attraction, with exquisite ribbons of sand lapped by turquoise waters and backed by lush hills, palm trees and dramatic boulders. Beyond the beach, diving and snorkelling are brilliant in the warm waters amid abundant marine life, while few places on the planet do ocean-side luxury quite like the Seychelles. Mahé is the largest island and entry point to the country, with glorious Praslin and La Digue a short boat ride away. Even further out, there are real lost-world islands to be found, where more adventurous travellers can have secluded beaches all to themselves.

ZANZIBAR

Zanzibar is a jewel in the ocean, where shoals of luminous fish graze over nearby coral gardens and pods of dolphins frolic offshore. The island’s allure is legendary, and as one of East Africa’s great trading centres, the archipelago has been for centuries a crossroads of culture, a melting pot of influences where Africa, India and Arabia meet. A top attraction is Stone Town, with its whitewashed, coral-rag houses, quaint shops, bazaars, mosques, courtyards and squares. The other draw card is of course Zanzibar’s coastline, edged by white-sand beaches and spectacular diving and snorkelling. Although the main island of Unguja feels untouched by the rest of the world, nearby Pemba and Mnemba offer retreats that are even more remote.

our-values

OUR VALUES

Responsible tourism is about respecting, protecting and benefiting local communities, cultures and the environment.

Animal-friendly Tourism

Travel companies around the world profit from some of the cruelest types of wildlife tourist attractions on earth. Whether it is riding elephants, or walking with lions, these activities can cause lifelong suffering for wild animals. As a leader in the travel industry, we know that traveller expectations change, and businesses must adapt. It’s time to stop profiting from wildlife cruelty in tourism!

Seeing wild animals when you travel can be such a memorable part of any Incentive Travel Programme. However, you may not be aware these animals often suffer unseen cruelty and abuse. Many wild animals are taken from their natural environments to be exploited for entertainment and profit. You may see animals that belong in the wild being used in live shows, or being offered for transport and rides. You may be approached to pose with animals for photos or be offered animal souvenirs or by-products. Often, the worst cruelty is hidden from view.

Sadly, many tourists who love animals may actually contribute to animal suffering simply because they’re unaware of the hidden cruelty. The more we can be aware of the way animals are being treated, the more we’ll be able to protect them from cruelty and suffering. Being animal-friendly when you travel means you always show respect – for the people, the culture, the environment, and the animals – in every country you visit.

You can protect animals on your Incentive Travel Programmes by being informed and alert to the welfare of the animals you encounter. Make good decisions for animals when you travel by following these simple steps:

Do your research. Investigate the venues you intend to visit. If animal encounters are offered, how are the animals treated, and where did they come from?

Ask questions. Check if your Destination Management Company or Incentive House has an animal welfare policy. Ask your colleagues, friends, and family about their experiences.

Make positive choices. Support tourism that does not exploit wild animals.

Eat ethically. When trying local exotic foods, ask if the animal is rare or endangered, which is often illegal.

Think before you buy. Consider that what may be a locally-produced animal souvenir could actually drive demand for the illegal trade in wildlife.

Think about culture. Always be respectful when you travel, but remember that culture is not an excuse for cruelty.

By empowering yourself with this information, you’ve taken the first step to helping protect animals when you travel.

URBAN GINGA is a proud signatory of the Blood Lions ‘Born To Live Wild’ tourism campaign and pledge: http://www.bloodlions.org/born-to-live-wild/. We have committed to promote and encourage Africa as an authentic, wild and responsible tourism destination and therefore do not support any breeders or facilities that offer interactive wildlife activities. In addition, we support the conservation efforts of the recognized conservation community. Captive-bred and hand-reared predators have no conservation value at all.

Corporate Social Responsibility

There is a growing eagerness and devotion within organisations to include a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) component within their Incentive Travel Programmes, and this can be as little, or as much, as you choose.

Some companies prefer that their employees or delegates become hands-on, and help local communities plant crops or paint school rooms, for example. Others like to encourage them to raise funds before they travel, and present the proceeds during their visit.

CSR may include aid for schools, spearheading community projects, or protecting wildlife, and depends on the chosen destination. There are many options from funding and assisting local schools, building homes and shelters in rural communities, developing permaculture projects and establishing community gardens, or darting rhinos to help protect them.

The Benefits of CSR:

  • CSR complements your internal Corporate Social Policies.

  • CSR can enhance teamwork prior to travelling, but also during the Incentive Travel Programme.

  • CSR gives your employees or delegates a great sense of satisfaction from giving something back.

If you see the value in building a CSR element into your next Incentive Travel Programme, we would absolutely love to help you achieve it!
